Established in 1982, Pike Place Market Foundation is here to support the heart and soul of the Market -- its people.

Pike Place Market Foundation inspires collaboration, celebration, and support to nurture the people in the heart of Seattle. It aims to create and maintain a neighborhood model that allows a diverse community to live and thrive at Pike Place Market

Why is it important?

As one of the famed attractions in the Emerald City, travelers from all over the world at Pike Place Market come and go every day. Being such a busy district, it might be easy for the locals to be neglected by the higher authorities. According to the Seattle Times, the King County has one of the higher concentration of homelessness in America, even worse than New York or L.A. By helping their most vulnerable neighbors who work, learn and live close to the Market, the landmark we all love can, therefore, remain a thriving, caring community.

How do they do it?

By granting a total of more than $30 million since 1982, the Market Foundation helps their most vulnerable neighbors seek housing, healthcare, healthy food, child care and community support in and around the Market. Over the past 36 years, the Foundation has partnered with up to 7 crucial community centers and services for its people. For one, Pike Market Senior Center was created as a warm, safe place for seniors to enjoy a hot meal. In 2016, it successfully moved 30 homeless seniors into permanent housing.
