Three Square Food Bank is tackling Southern Nevada hunger one meal at a time.

The MISSION of Three Square is to provide wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community.

Why is it important?

Three Square's vision is that, "No one in our community should be hungry." By bringing together the resources, the experience and the passion of the people and businesses of Southern Nevada, they can make sure children, individuals and seniors receive the food they need. This is reflected in their core values of Compassion, Collaboration, Innovation, Stewardship, Transparency, and Urgency.

A 2018 study by Three Square Food Bank and Feeding America, taking into consideration such factors as the unemployment rate, federal food assistance eligibility rates and the average cost of a meal, found 12.8 percent of the population of Clark County are food insecure. The same study found 46.3 million meals are needed each year to close the gap between the need for food and what is currently made available through federal nutrition programs and charitable organizations and the average price of a meal in Clark County is $3.11. Rural communities in Nevada often have an even higher average meal cost than their urban counterparts.

How do they do it?

Food and funds are donated - Food and grocery products are donated from manufacturers, retailers, corporations and the public. Donated funds are used for the purchase, transportation, warehousing and distribution of food.

Product is delivered or Three Square sends drivers to pick-up food and grocery items - Food and grocery product is properly sorted, inventoried, stored and repacked (bulk product) for distribution to member Program Partners.

Product is sorted and distributed - Food and grocery products are properly sorted, inventoried, stored and repacked for distribution to their partners.

Program partners receive food - Non-profit and faith-based organizations including church pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and schools who work on the front lines to help those in need receive food and grocery products from Three Square.

Food reaches those in need - More than 100,000 men, women, and children receive food through Three Square and their program partners each and every month.

Core programs have been established by Three Square encouraging Childhood NutritionSenior Hunger Programs that provide food-insecure seniors with healthy groceries, facilitating applications with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a federal nutrition program from the USDA that empowers eligible, low-income individuals and families to purchase food at grocery stores with the use of an EBT card, and a Food Rescue Department that works with more than 300 grocery/retail stores and Las Vegas hosted conventions to source food that may otherwise go to waste.

Three Square continually advocates for public policy on issues affecting hunger-relief efforts.
