Ellie Huizenga

Ellie has a deep passion for travel, community engagement, and helping people adventure. Before coming to Kind Traveler, Ellie worked at the American Red Cross in Seattle. In her work at the Red Cross, she lead preparedness trainings & workshops at schools around King County and ran all of the major fundraising events throughout the Northwest region. She has travelled through Sweden, Nepal, Romania, Hungary, India, France, Italy, England, and the Netherlands. And is always dreaming about the next place she will get to explore and learn from! A big backpacker and skier, she is always ready to find some new mountains to get to the top of.

When Ellie is not traveling or working she is teaching yoga at Datzastudios in Seattle. Ellie’s passion for yoga was ignited when she studied abroad in India during the Spring of 2014. She agreed to intense yoga classes 6 days a week at 7:00 am in the morning. At the time, not realize what a large impact yoga would have on my life for years to come. Since then, her love and passion for yoga has only grown. Ellie continues to delve into the ways that yoga is not only good for the body, but healthy for the mind. Her intention for every class is to infuse love into the room so that others can carry that love into the world. Strength and compassion is what she tries to encompass both on and off the mat.

  1. What’s your spirit animal?
I am not sure what my spirit animal is, but if I could be any animal in the would it would be a whale. I would get to spend my days exploring, eating, and singing; I cannot imagine much better than that!

  2. Your favorite cause and charity and why?
As someone who used to work at the American Red Cross and lived through the 2015 Nepal earthquake, disaster relief will always be a cause I care about. I am also passionate about empowerment and love organizations like Girl Up or StreetWise.

  3. Where do you dream of traveling to?
I have yet to travel to South America! It is on my bucket list to walk through the Andes mountains.

  4. What does it mean to #TravelKindly to you?
Traveling kindly means incorporating wellness, thoughtfulness, and sustainability into every aspect I can while travelling. It is about knowing that each little bit has an impact whether it is donating locally or carrying a refillable water bottle. It is about allowing each interaction and moment to be filled with intention and kindness.
