A collection of environmental organizations is inspiring visitors, residents and businesses to “Take Care” of the extraordinary national treasure that is Lake Tahoe.

The MISSION of Take Care Tahoe (TCT) is to spearhead a collective group of more than 30 organizations that love Lake Tahoe and want to see more people connect with this beautiful natural environment.

Why is it important?

Lake Tahoe is an environmental success story and a global role model for sustainability. TCT connects more people to their beautiful environment and helps nurture a culture of sustainability.

How do they do it?

Take Care Tahoe inspires visitors and residents to “Take Action” and provides simple ways in which individuals and businesses can help to keep Tahoe beautiful. Several examples of this include keeping watercraft clean of invasive species, providing legal information and tips for fire safety, ways to reduce nutrient and other pollutant runoff into the lake, guidelines for proper trail etiquette, responsible river use, keeping food waste free from bears,  and simply picking up after yourself and others.

TCT also offers the Take Care™ campaign and Take Care Toolkit which has been designed for display by locals and businesses in outreach materials. These are displays on trash cans, in parks, in hotel lobbies, on piers, in restaurants, on beaches, or on trails. Basically, anywhere to reach people who might be making simple mistakes that are hurting our environment.
