Hope Haven provides shelter, education, medical care, and mental health care within a family setting to ensure children can heal from trauma and lead healthy lives.
Why is it important?
Hope Haven Children’s Home is the only children’s shelter in San Pedro, Belize, providing a safe, stable home for children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned. Since opening in 2018, Hope Haven has offered emergency placement, long-term residential care, and mental health services for children in crisis, while also extending support to vulnerable women and families in the community.
San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye is home to nearly 25,000 residents, many of whom face economic hardship - approximately 43% of Belize’s population lives in poverty. For many families, a single emergency can lead to housing instability or loss of income. In response, Hope Haven not only provides residential care for children, but also operates a learning center for children ages 5 to 12, and empowerment programs that support both youth and women in building confidence, skills, and opportunity.
What began as a simple idea - that every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and seen - has grown into a deeply rooted community effort. Hope Haven provides a safe, loving home for up to 15 children at a time, ensuring that each child is known, cared for, and given the individualized attention they need to heal and thrive.
