ABOUT

The Setting

If you’re planning to see Buckingham Palace during your London stay, simply walk out the front doors of the recently-restored Rubens at the Palace. In the 18th century, the site that the hotel now stands on was part of Buckingham Palace’s grounds, filled with rows of shops and apartments for the Palace staff. Today these historic roots are celebrated throughout the hotel and brought to life with warm and traditional British hospitality. Part of the family-owned Red Carnation Hotels, you’re assured spectacular service, lodgings, and sustainable measures to give every Kind Traveler the royal treatment.

The Rubens team are committed to supporting local charities such as Kidscape, which helps stop bullying, The Starlight Foundation, enriching the lives o seriously ill children, and The Passage, which works to empower those experiencing homelessness to more prosperous and fuller lives. The hotel is also proud to champion B-Corp suppliers, such as Belu Water who give 100% of their profits to WaterAid to help transform lives with clean water. You’ll reduce carbon emissions with your stay, too. Just a short walk from the hotel and you'll find Buckingham Palace, The Royal Mews and The Queen's Gallery. The River Thames, Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and The London Eye are also within walking distance.

Sleep and Sanctuary

The 161 guest rooms and suites range from cozy executive twin singles to majestic master suites overlooking the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace. Rise and shine after a monarch-style sleep in rich regal bedding set amongst elegant furnishings. In most rooms you’ll find free Wi-Fi, complimentary tea and coffee facilities upon request, luxe bathrobes and toiletries, tubs or walk-in showers. Each suite has distinct character, with a dignified palette of naval blue and gold, and features sumptuous details such as Murano glass chandeliers, original oil paintings and imposing canopies above beds. Furry friends are also treated like royalty.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

London has quickly become one of the world’s top eating and imbibing destinations and the Rubens at the Palace is a perfect example of why. Find exquisite dining in The English Grill or an authentic Indian tasting journey in The Curry Room, sip in a beautiful lounge overlooking The Royal Mews, revel in their cutting edge cocktail bars and succumb to cravings with 24-hour room service. For a one-of-a-Kind experience, you can meet Executive Chef Ben Kelliher at the hotel to learn how The Rubens at the Palace reduces food waste in partnership with Winnow’s cutting-edge monitoring technology and how they use surplus produce creatively in the kitchen. Chef Ben will also talk about the sustainable consumption of food, explaining how he works closely with the very best local and responsible suppliers. Take sustainable dining to the next level with their Make Travel Matter Experience, join Chef Kelliher as you visit Borough Market together, a historic market dating back to the 12th century emphasizing high-quality food and sustainable production, to pick ingredients for a plant-based menu, which will be created and cooked for you back at the hotel.

HOW TO GET THERE

By Plane
  • 14.8 miles from London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
  • 27.8 miles from London Gatwick Airport (LGW)
  • 9.8 miles from London City Airport (LCY)

There are usually taxis queuing for customers at London's airports. Only use a black cab or reputable minicab and never use unauthorized drivers. Ask the driver or minicab company how much your journey will cost beforehand. A metered trip in a black cab to/from Central London generally costs from £50 to £80 and takes 30 minutes to one hour.

By Train
  • The Heathrow Express is the fastest way to travel into Central London. For more information, and details of fares, visit the Heathrow Express https://www.heathrowexpress.com/?tid=WEX12018#/
  • Operating 150 services every day, Heathrow Express reaches Heathrow Central (Terminals 1 and 3) from Paddington in 15 minutes, with Terminal 5 a further four minutes. A free transfer service to Terminal 4 departs Heathrow Central every 15 minutes and takes four minutes. Heathrow Connect services run from London Paddington, calling at Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Hanwell, Southall, Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Central (Terminals 1 and 3). For Terminals 4 and 5, there's a free Heathrow Express transfer service from Heathrow Central. Heathrow Connect journey time is about 25 minutes from Paddington to Heathrow Central.
  • The Piccadilly line connects Heathrow Airport to Central London and the rest of the Tube system. The Tube is cheaper than the Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect but it takes a lot longer and is less comfortable. Tube services leave Heathrow every few minutes from approximately 5.10am (5.50am Sundays) to 11.45pm (11.30pm Sundays). Journey time to Piccadilly Circus is about 50 minutes. There are three Tube stations at Heathrow Airport, serving Terminals 1-3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. For more information, and details of fares, visit the Transport for London (TfL).  If you're going to be using London's public transport system, it's worth buying an Oyster card. The nearest Tube station is Victoria Station, the hotel is a 2 - 3 minute walk from Victoria Station. Exit the station at Terminus Place and turn left. Turn right onto Buckingham Palace Road and follow the road for approximately 100 meters where you will arrive at the hotel on your right hand side. From the Piccadilly tube line from Heathrow, Hyde Park Corner Station is also a viable route.
  • The Gatwick Express is the fastest way into Central London. There are non-stop trains every 15 minutes between Gatwick Airport's South Terminal and London Victoria Station, then a 10 min train on the Circle line to High Street/Kensington. Journey time is 30 minutes. There are four daytime services an hour, and hourly services throughout the night. Southern Railway offers regular train services during the day from Gatwick to London Victoria via East Croydon and Clapham Junction.
  • London City Airport has its own station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Services run every eight to 15 minutes. Fares on the DLR are the same as those on The Tube.  The DLR connects to the Tube at Canning Town and  Canary Wharf (Jubilee Line) or Bank (Central Line).  For more information, and details of fares, visit the Transport for London (TfL)website
