Through inclusive community engagement, Redwood Forest Foundation acquires, restores and manages depleted forest landscapes to benefit the environment and wellbeing of people.

Why is it important?

RFFI envisions healthy, productive forests that restore local connection and control, ecosystem health and diversity, economic opportunity, and climate resilience throughout the Redwood Region. Unfortunately, millions of acres of industrial land are being sold each year in the United States, and an estimated 18 million acres of forest are lost each year (according to the UN), while forested watersheds provide drinking water for over 180 million Americans. Until now, many of these timberlands have been managed to provide short-term economic gains. This has resulted in depleted forest ecosystems, leading to a contentious public debate. The ability of a non-profit corporation to purchase these forestlands will break this cycle as well as enhance community opportunities. Cutover forestlands do not have the same appeal for preservation as old-growth. However, they are just as important in terms of large, landscape-scale protection and restoration of habitat. The RFFI model creates jobs and improves economic opportunity in depressed rural communities. This model of acquiring and restoring depleted forestland for the benefit of the community is creating a model of large-scale forest conservation and is eliciting global interest.

How do they do it?

The Redwood Forest Foundation (RFFI) employs a multifaceted approach to acquiring, restoring, and managing depleted forest landscapes, fostering environmental sustainability and enhancing the wellbeing of communities in the Redwood Region. Through strategic land acquisitions, RFFI preserves critical forest ecosystems, safeguarding biodiversity and mitigating the impacts of deforestation. Restoration efforts focus on reforestation, habitat rehabilitation, and watershed protection, bolstering ecosystem resilience and fostering healthy forest ecosystems. RFFI's sustainable forest management practices prioritize long-term conservation while supporting local economies through responsible timber harvesting and carbon sequestration initiatives. By engaging with stakeholders and fostering community partnerships, RFFI ensures that its efforts benefit the environment and contribute to the socio-economic vitality of the Redwood Region's people. By purchasing and sustainably managing the once great redwood forests surrounding the communities of the redwood region in northwestern California, RFFI will provide a social, environmental, and economic benefit for all of our citizens by returning net profits directly back into the communities served.

About Mendocino Magic

Formerly a 600 acre logging camp and then a commercial trout farm, the space has historically provided employment to a large part of the local community. As the commercial logging and fishing industries faded from prominence, the land has transitioned to becoming a recreational destination for those seeking connection with the outdoors.

Home to some of the best stargazing in Northern California, Mendocino Magic also features the pristine Holland Reservoir- the largest private water holding in the North Coast region. Miles of trails wind throughout mountainous hillsides and scenic valleys. These former logging era pathways now lead guests around ponds, through manzanita groves and oak forests, to numerous campsites, weekend getaway cabins, furnished luxury canvas tents, and an exclusive and uniquely secluded woodsball paintball course.

Guests can enjoy a traditional campout, with the option to add high-end amenities. There are cabins and facilities on site to host and cater to large groups for private events, corporate retreats, environmental education school outings, weddings, workshops, and seminars.

We can’t wait to share it with you.
