For children in Belize with disabilities, hope lives at the Inspiration Center.
The MISSION of the Inspiration Center is to work in partnership with families, government, NGOs and organizations for people with disabilities by providing rehabilitation services and programs to children with disabilities from 0-16 years. The Inspiration Center also offers recreational, cultural, and sports programs for all children to promote inclusion.
Why is it important?
The Inspiration Center is the only organization to offer low-cost, comprehensive therapy and medical services to children with disabilities (birth to 16 years old) in the country of Belize. Most children they serve have little access to therapy services at affordable rates. The Inspiration Center strives to remain available to all families in need, regardless of financial background.
How do they do it?
The Inspiration Center is committed to developing their staff and management to ensure they have the capability, knowledge and skills required to deliver quality services and programs for children’s optimal development and learning. They aim to be a leading resource center in the region providing sustainable high quality services to empower children with disabilities to participate in society.
The merging of the Medical Model and the Community Based Rehabilitation Model of Care is what makes The Inspiration Center stand out. The Medical Model embraces medical and nursing services, diagnostic testing, comprehensive evaluation and treatment by physical and speech therapists and through referrals to specialists. On the other hand, the Community Based Model of care embraces grass roots efforts, local resources, low cost adaptive aids and inclusion. The merging of these models provides pioneering quality care with the emphasis on early intervention, stimulation and empowerment of children with special needs.
