The Redwood Coast Humane Society is a 100 percent volunteer-run nonprofit organization serving Northern California’s Redwood Coast from Elk to Timber Cove. Established in 2000 (originating from earlier chapters in 1987), it centers its work around caregiving, intervention, and education to promote the welfare, rights, respect, and protection of all animals. RCHS programs are the driving factor in achieving their success, these programs include: Rescue and Foster Care provides temporary, medical, and emotional care for animals that are surrendered, injured, or rescued, placing them into foster homes until they are ready for adoption. Adoption Services match companion animals with forever homes via structured adoption programs (often with spay and neuter included). Population Control offers financial support and educational resources for spay and neuter services, and actively participates in Trap-Neuter-Return efforts in collaboration with local volunteers to humanely manage community cat populations. Community Support & Resources acts as an information hub, providing guidance on lost and found pets, feral cat management, referrals, counseling, and emergency assistance, including medical aid through an “Angel Fund” and transportation support. Public Education programs include workshops, public events, newsletters, and publications to raise awareness, inform pet owners, and inspire community involvement. A Volunteer Network relies on a skilled and dedicated volunteer base for all operations, from fostering to newsletter writing and social media outreach, expanding visibility and support. Lastly, Fundraising efforts sustain program operations through donations, community donation boxes, grants, and fundraisers.
