Why is it important?

Joshua Tree Animal Shelter is the only no-kill shelter in the Morongo Basin and is on a mission to do one very important thing: end euthanasia in the region and bring real hope to the Mojave. The shelter gives dogs and cats the time, care, and support they need to heal, decompress, and find the right homes. Every year, they help hundreds of animals who would otherwise be at risk, and treat every animal as an individual, making thoughtful decisions based on what gives them the best chance at a happy, stable life. Ending euthanasia isn’t just the shelter’s slogan; it’s the work they do every day. The goal of the shelter is simple: fewer animals dying in shelters and more animals going home. Families come in all shapes and sizes, and so do the animals they care for. They focus on real, lasting matches that work for both the pet and the person, so everyone can succeed long-term. The shelter relies on its principles of doing things with honesty, transparency, and heart, and by advocating for humane treatment, responsible pet ownership, and a sheltering system that values life.

How do they do it?

Rooted in the spirit of desert Kindness, the Joshua Tree No-Kill Animal Shelter offers a safe haven where compassion guides every step of an animal’s journey toward healing and home. Operating as a community-supported rescue, the shelter provides medical care, rehabilitation, enrichment, and socialization to animals who might otherwise be overlooked, ensuring each dog and cat has the time they need to recover and trust again. Through volunteer engagement, foster programs, and thoughtful adoption matching, the organization not only saves lives but strengthens the bond between people and animals, proving that humane care, local collaboration, and second chances can transform both a shelter and the community it serves.

About Pappy & Harriet’s

At the edge of the high desert in historic Pioneertown, the legendary Pappy & Harriet's blends live music, community spirit, and soulful hospitality into an experience that feels both timeless and deeply rooted in place. Known for its legendary performances (Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, and Patti Smith, to name a few) and laid-back roadhouse charm, the venue extends its impact beyond the stage by giving back locally, including donating $0.50 from every concert and event ticket to the Joshua Tree No-Kill Animal Shelter. This thoughtful partnership supports compassionate rescue, care, and adoption efforts for desert animals in need, proving that a night of music under the stars can also nurture a more humane and connected community.
