The world is your oyster at this historic and newly redesigned coastal pearl on Virginia’s Northern Neck.

The Setting

Situated on Carter’s Creek, a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay estuary in the heart of Virginia’s Northern Neck, is the Tides Inn. Just full of Southern charm, the rich history of the Tides Inn dates back to the mid 1940’s when the Ashburn Farm was transformed into “Virginia’s Family Resort,” and doors were opened to the public.

The focus at Tides is placed on heritage, maritime culture, and an undeniable dedication to hospitality and conservation. Located on a private peninsula, their waterways are home to two famous residents, blue crabs and oysters, as well as more than 3,000 migratory and wildlife species that call the area home.

They are also spearheading the Tides Inn Waterfront Restoration Project, where 18,000ft of new living shoreline will be added. You can learn more about their key role on Chesapeake Bay health as you take a river ecology kayak tour with the resident ecologist. We’ll also tempt you to grab a complimentary bike and hit the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail, stopping at the nearest winery, the Dog & Oyster, named for the rescue dogs who protect the grapes from deer and other animals.

Sleep and Sanctuary

The 66 newly redesigned pet-friendly guest rooms and four all-new suites at the Tides Inn will inspire dreams of sparkling Chesapeake waters and spartina grass dancing in the salty breeze. Most of the Inn’s guest rooms and suites feature private patios with waterfront views for enjoying such spectacular scenery and coastal luxury.

The recently renovated deluxe and premium rooms offer comfortable accommodations with waterfront views of Carter’s Creek and lush gardens. The brand spankin’ new Ashburn Suites (named after former Ashburn Farm upon which the Inn stands) provide the ultimate private retreat, with stunning water views, rich mahogany wood and leather details, a separate living space and modern spa-like bathrooms with freestanding deep soaking tubs.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

With an innovative approach to the unique, coastal fare of the Chesapeake region, The Tides Inn’s seasoned culinary team offers an eclectic range of dining experiences in unique settings to satisfy all palates. Start things off casually refined at the signature Chesapeake Restaurant, where locally sourced cuisine meets spectacular waterside views (both inside and out).

Assemble your coterie on the deck at Fish Hawk Oyster Bar for some “Chesapeake Gold'' and craft beers, or order in-room dining on your private balcony. For an authentic and sophisticated après le dîner, head to The Eagle Room. Rooted in rich heritage, this watering hole represents the Inn’s storied past and is outfitted with vintage Bourbon lockers and anchored by a large, hand-carved wooden eagle.

  • Chesapeake Restaurant - The signature resto at the Tides Inn, Chesapeake will keep you fed morning, noon and night (including weekend brunch). We recommend the Cauliflower “Steak,” roasted cauliflower, vegan cauliflower risotto, beets and fried capers with a side of wild and tame mushrooms, paired with a Simi Cabernet Sauvignon from 100% sustainable Sonoma County.
  • Fish Hawk Oyster Bar - Enjoy a casual, upbeat vibe as you dine waterfront overlooking Carter’s Creek or poolside. Try a Superfoods Salmon Salad with baby kale, quinoa, edamame, citrus, cucumber, seared salmon & lemon-herb vinaigrette and sip on a local craft brew.
  • Golden Eagle Grill - Located at the Golden Eagle Golf Club, guests are invited to indulge in American light fare at the Golden Eagle Grill before heading out on the golf course or following a successful morning on the greens.
  • In-Room Dining - Breakfast available 7am -11am daily, start things off protein style with a Steel Cut Oatmeal or a healthy start omelette. The all-day menu ranges from 11:30am-10pm, where you’ll find items like hearty salads and pastas. Kind Kids have a wide range of selections, too.
 The Art of De-stressing

Relish in tranquil intimacy on the shores of Carter Cove at the Spa at the Tides Inn. Rooted in wellbeing, you’ll find personalized treatments like the “Rappahannock Renewal,” a deeply detoxifying body scrub reflecting the Tides’ commitment to the waterways of the Northern Neck and the natural shoreline restoration.

They’re dedicated to the purification and renewal of the local waterways and would like to extend those same benefits to Kind Travelers, in turn, rejuvenate and relax knowing five dollars from every treatment directly supports maintaining the natural ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay region.

Days start off well at the Tides Inn, meet a wellness guide for Creekside Morning Yoga and begin with hatha focused on breath, body and mind. Then you’ll move on to the vinyasa flow connecting with your breath until you conclude with a Savasana, relaxing with the sounds of nature. Paddle board yoga is also available.

For more active endeavors, the Fitness Center is at your disposal 24/7/365, where you’ll find a Peloton bike, assortment of free weights and an array of high energy fitness classes including HIIT training. Competitive Kind Travelers can take full advantage of the tennis and pickleball courts (equipment included in resort fee), or a round of golf at the exquisite Golden Eagle Golf Club. The whole family can take part in a morning ride through town on complimentary bikes or take part in a range of parlour and garden games.

On the water relaxation can be found in your own Duffy boat, or taking in the scenery via SUP, canoe or kayak, or simply taking a relaxing sunset cruise with a bottle of local vino.
