Quirk Hotel brings an artsy zing to the creative heart of Richmond.

The Setting

If Virginia is for Lovers, then Quirk Hotel in Richmond’s bustling downtown arts and design district, is for Kind Travelers. The brainchild of the owners of Quirk Gallery, a leading force behind Richmond’s art boom, this hip boutique hotel is a work of art itself, housed in a historic Italian Renaissance design building originally built for a dry goods store in 1916.

Step off a cobble-stoned monument lined street to a soaring lobby teaming with old world grandeuer and discover architectural gems like limestone archways, floor-to-ceiling windows, maple floors, and vaulted groin ceilings. However, hopeful time travelers may feel slighted to find the 100 year old building swathed in 60’s mod charms like clean lines and pale pink overtones and modern must-haves such as a state-of-the-art fitness center, a European-style coffee stand, local fave artisan resto Maple & Pine, a hip lobby bar with inventive libations and local brews and Q Rooftop Bar catering to artistic local gentry and thirsty guests alike.

Throw in for good measure the attached Quirk Gallery featuring established and emerging artists, a commitment to practices aimed at reducing the environmental footprint and, not kidding, a Tesla charging station and it’s fair to say, (all together now) Quirk is for Kind Travelers!

Sleep and Sanctuary

All 75 guestrooms and suites are sun-splashed, sophisticated, comfy, and accomidating to furry pals under 70 lbs. Some Quirk(y) touches to be found are local artist works adorning the walls, custom designed furnishings, vintage-inspired clock radios, custom bed frames made from reclaimed wood from the building’s salvaged ceiling joists and refinished original maple and pine (restaurant’s namesake) floors from the department store days. Other goodies to enjoy are 42” wall-mounted TV’s, snack and beverage bars with locally sourced items, custom work desks, and stylish bathrooms with luxurious Nest fragrence bath products made from natural plant extracts.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

It’s no secret that downtown Richmond culinary scene is exploding with tastemakers and taste seekers. Thankfully the Quirk is a key player on this team with local favorite Maple & Pine, a stark pink and white restaurant helmed by Virginia rising star Chef David Dunlap and his talented team. The Quirk also strives its best to keep you hydrated in the best possible way with the lobby Coffee Bar for a European coffee experience, the Cocktail Bar for crafted cocktails and the Q Rooftop bar for fresh air and the same cocktail pedigree you’d come to expect at Quirk.

  • Maple & Pine - Let’s start with the culinary crown jewel of the property, shall we? Rich, savory and roasted flavors dominate the menu here emphasizing local growers, artisinal ingredients and seasonality.  Menus are frequently changed to utilize local bounties but some highlights to keep your eye out for are the roasted cauliflower with black garlic, lemon, smoked caperberry and confit tomato. Here you’ll find a laid-back elegance and convival cocktail bar scene that is one of the city’s favorites. Reservations are recommended for dinner, lunch and weekend breakfast. Dinner: 5pm-9pm Sunday- Thurs, 5pm-10pm Fri & Sat. Lunch: 11am-2pm all week. Breakfast 6:30am-10am all week and Brunch: 10:30-2pm Sat & Sun.

  • Cocktails & Coffee - The Cocktail Bar is the social hub of the Quirk, start the evening off (or finish it off) with a hand crafted cocktail made with the freshest local ingredients and juices, a wine from one of Virginia’s much esteemed wineries, or a beer from one of Virginia’s best micro-breweries. The Coffee Bar at the foot of the lobby brews up coffee blends from local coffee roaster Blanchard’s Roasting Co. as well as handsome selection of local teas, and baked goods and savory snacks from Quirk’s own kitchen.

  • Q Rooftop Bar - When the weather permits, this is the place to be. Hotel guests can manuever the throngs of local scenesters to flaunt their priority entry. Expect a similar cocktail craftsmanship as the downstairs bar garnished with breathtaking views.

  • Room Service from Maple & Pine is 7am-9pm. Hungry hermits rejoice!
The Art of De-stressing

Sweat out the stress at the on-site Fitness Center using its state-of-the-art gym equipment or rent a bike from the lobby and venture out on a mapped out bike ride and take in Richmond’s natural splendor on two wheels. The concierge can happily steer you in the right direction.
