Looking for a quintessential West Hollywood getaway? Look no further than Sunset Boulevard’s Mondrian Hotel.

The Setting

If its Sunset location doesn’t speak for itself, then the rooftop lounge, glam-chic design, and attentive-but-cool service (though not too cool, as can be the case in LA), will do the trick. Being nestled in the classiest part of Tinsel Town means having more to-do options than one sunny weekend will allow. Find some of the city’s best shopping and restaurants on Sunset Strip; hiking and stellar views from the surrounding Hollywood Hills; plus, the finest beaches this side of the Mississippi if you’re down for a short drive west. This hotel also allows for your dog, cat, and/or ferrets to accompany you for the ride. The only question is: What will you do first?

Sleep and Sanctuary

Enter Mondrian’s signature, 30-foot mahogany doors into an urban masterpiece of 236 rooms. The hotel’s purposefully over-the-top design is balanced out by natural elements, making things a little more laid back: sustainable bamboo floors, revolving orange mirrors that double as HDTV’s (seriously), and oversized, potted-plants, reminding you that green does in fact grow in La La Land. The hotel also ensures Kindness to the environment by recycling all materials, using low-flow faucets, LED lighting, and guestrooms with individually controlled thermostats.  All rooms also feature Bose iPod docks and rainfall shower heads (sometimes two...), as well as eco-friendly MALIN + GOETZ bath products, packaged only with recyclable materials. Best of all, every room features floor-to-ceiling windows to soak in the view. Could be worse.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

The hotel’s dining experience embraces the local culture of Los Angeles: Relaxed yet refined, simple but exceptional, featuring farmer’s market fresh comfort foods and California cuisine (think: avocados, truffle flavored things, highly organic, etc). Head Chef Brian Malarkey is an alum of both Top Chef and ABC’s The Taste, meaning he knows a thing or two about getting around the kitchen. Bon appétit.

  • Ivory on Sunset – Grab a table for any meal at the Mondrian’s stunning restaurant - where the ceiling is made of glass, and whose floor-to-ceiling windows give a stunning view of sprawling LA, and the Pacific beyond. While the menu is heavily meat-and-seafood based, you can still enjoy plenty of plant-based options. Try any (or all) of the veggie sides at dinner paired with Ivory’s decadent sauce selection, in addition to the must-try truffle fries (we mean it–these aren’t to miss). The avocado sandwich is a winner for lunch, and at breakfast, why not splurge on the brioche french toast with a side of organic coffee, or a smoothie on the lighter side. Ivory’s signature cocktails shouldn't be missed either. We’re particularly intrigued by the Dueling Pistolas of Avion silver tequila, mezcal, house made black mission fig jam, clove agave, and lime juice bitter.

  • Skybar – If you’re looking for drinks with a view, head to Skybar: This open-air bar and ivy-covered pavilion is perched above–you guessed it–Mondrian’s pool. This place is truly poppin’ all day and night, ringing with Hollywood glamor, and DJ beats when the sun goes down. Its innovative cocktail menu is unique from the main restaurant (and any other bar we’ve been to), with options like the Bourbon and Cookies–that’s for real made with chocolate chip cookies–and the classy Bullés Rouges, of champagne, raspberry puree, fresh lemon juice, and organic vodka. Skybar also offers its own food menu, featuring flat breads, salads, “finger food”, and a few entreés. Save us a couch, please.

24-hour room service is available if you please; Chef Brian was particularly excited to create this fun and whimsical menu, so definitely take the time to try it out.

The Art of De-stressing

Workout to the beat of bustling Sunset Boulevard at Mondrian’s first-floor fitness center. This state-of-the-art beauty is full of cardio machines and free weights to let you sweat with the best of them (you are arguably in the wellness capital of the US, after all). Personal trainers also available upon request, if you’d like a little guidance. Reward yourself with an in-room spa treatment afterwards from one of the de-stress masters on-staff.

Mondrian’s Outdoor Living Room (yes, that’s a thing) engulfs guests in a flowering garden, providing a natural escape from the hip-and-happening–and highly developed–Hollywood. Its centerpiece is the hotel’s turquoise pool: so serene, it plays soothing, underwater music just in case you weren’t relaxed enough above ground. Suntan by day and lounge beneath lanterns at night; this magical little hideaway is always a good idea.

Guestrooms

Standard guestrooms include a king bed, as well as views of either the pool, city skyline, or Hollywood Hills. If you’d rather enjoy your view out in the fresh(ish) air, book yourself a Superior with Balcony and embrace the breeze (overlooking the pool).

Suites

Suite life at the Mondrian is so sweet, you get to choose from five different suite styles. Studio Suites of varying sizes offer differing beds in accordance: single kings, single queens, two doubles, and some with daybeds. Balcony Suites add a second rainfall showerhead and six-jet Jacuzzi, and One-Bedrooms separate your sleeping and living areas into a two-room, stark-white haven. All include a wet bar and work space with desk (but really, who’s working on vacation?).

Special Rooms

The monochromatic Apartment at Mondrian is as spacious and luxurious as can be. Have guests over to lounge on your full-length outdoor terrace, or entertain in the dining area if the weather cools down (a relative term, here, however). But to vacation at a gold standard, prepare for a stay in the Penthouse. This metal-and-honey-themed room includes a full dining area, living room, and master suite, as well as the option of three additional bedrooms to further up your space and comfort. Enjoy.
