Savor the good life in Virginia wine country at the refreshing Lansdowne Resort & Spa situated along the Potomac River.

The Setting

Just about 33 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., sits Leesburg in Loudoun County, a jewel in Virginia’s overly charming wine country. In the heart of the valley known for artisan tastes, antiques, down-home hospitality and historic preservation, you’ll find the Lansdowne Resort & Spa spooning the Potomac River on 496 lush acres. And believe us, not one square inch is wasted as the Lansdowne has an over-abundance of amenities to make any Kind Traveler and Kind family giddy with anticipation.

We’re talking an aquatic complex with 5 pools, and for the little fish in the family, an active pool with a waterslide and interactive fountain. There’s also an adults-only pool should your preferences be more of the book and bake variety. It doesn’t stop there however, find four spectacular restaurants sourced from local farms, a 12,000 sq ft spa with 12 treatment rooms, a fully equipped health center with daily classes, 3 lighted tennis courts, an outdoor basketball court, sand volleyball courts and miles and miles of trails to hike (along with your furry friend) or bike alongside the picturesque river. And last, but certainly not least, is the world-renowned Golf Club at Lansdowne featuring 45 holes of championship golf. So, grab a glass (or bottle) of local wine and cozy up to the fire pit, because you’ll be living the good life here.

Sleep and Sanctuary

The newly redesigned 296 guestrooms and 14 suites at Lansdowne Resort and Spa overlook the resort or the golf course and showcase the Potomac River and expansive resort grounds. With nature as inspiration, expect distinctive style, authentic handcrafted accents, and nods to Virginia wine country create an inviting aesthetic, while luxurious white linens and premium bath amenities offer exceptional comfort. Within each guestroom, ADA guestroom and Suite expect to find such amenities as HDTV’s, on-demand movies, iPod docking stations, outlets a plenty, convenient oversized work stations, marble bathrooms with shower tubs with vanities, mini-fridges, comfy robes and luxurious environmentally friendly bath products, complimentary WiFi and two complimentary bottles of water. Your dogs and cats are treated like royal guests as well, with a fee per pet.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

With a resort as expansive as the Lansdowne, you can expect that your culinary options will be as well. From the bounty of the Virginia countryside to the abundance of fresh Chesapeake Bay seafood, the culinary teams at the resort’s restaurants have curated experiences that make them among the best in this foodie-packed county. From traditional American favorites, to celebrations of VA’s historic cuisine, to crafted cocktails, to relaxed Pub fare, to poolside eats, to bites and craft cocktails straight from an herb garden, your tastebuds will surely be satisfied.

Coton & Rye, the newest and liveliest member of the family is named after a farm that once stood on the land and celebrates the rich history of the area, partnering with local farmers to create recipes and cocktails true to the native Old Dominion. Nosh on collard greens, mason jars of pickled veggies and a vegetable pave’ with layers of grilled eggplant, zucchini, gold beets, barley and baked marinara and mozzarella. Make a point to be there on Wednesdays when they donate 20 percent of restaurant sales to local causes, so feel free to have a second or third of its own Coton & Rye whiskey, made with local Loudoun County grains. They even have Happy Hour from 4-6pm and stay open late on weekends.

Riverside Hearth is the place where guests, locals and golfers come together for breakfast and lunch amid floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the resort. For breakfast, find the usual made-to-order suspects as well as fresh fruits and granolas. For lunch, find fresh vegetables, house made dressings and soups at the Salad Station as well as sandwiches and hearty vegetarian options. Also, the perfect place for a farm-to-table Sunday Brunch overlooking the rolling hills of the Potomac River Valley.

Piedmont’s Table is the place to get gussied up and dine on upscale steaks and seafood with locally inspired selections from the Piedmont and Tidewater regions of Virginia. Those not in the mood for surf and turf can indulge in the fresh market vegetable plate. To add to the elegance, the breathtaking clubhouse restaurant overlooks stunning natural vistas. Proper dress code at this one, lords and ladies.

Pub 46 is the perfect day and evening place to relax, gaze out at the vistas and enjoy appetizers, sandwiches and salads, as well as a full bar with signature drinks and favorite beverages ranging from draft beer to fine wines, scotches, bourbons and cognacs.

Currents Pool & Grill, named after the running waters of the nearby Potomac, can satisfy your hunger or thirst with good eats and libations as you lounge by the pool.

Between the 9th and 10th hole on the Greg Norman golf course sits Spoke ‘N Dog, a local hot dog stand and bike rental shop where you can grab a snack and all the provisions you may need for a day of hiking, mountain biking or fishing.

Fanny’s Garden is the resort’s new cocktail garden featuring drinks and small bites with ingredients straight from the resort’s herb garden. Named after Fanny Ludwell Lee, the young widow who managed a farm on the resort’s land in the 1800’s. Fanny’s Garden is a special place for guests to gather and enjoy a game of cornhole and other lawn games.

In-Room Dining can be had in the comfort of your suite or guest room, artfully prepared from the resort’s four restaurants everyday from 6am-12am. Private dining may also be arranged anywhere on the resort grounds including the fire pit.

The Art of De-stressing

Surely the peace and serenity of 476 lush acres overlooking the Potomac River in picturesque Northern Virginia wine country alone could relax most, but the Landsdowne hits you over the head with de-stressing options. Take, for starters, world-class Spa Minerale which not only serves as a full-service salon, but is upholding the resort’s locally sourced ethos to luxurious heights with their vinotherapy treatments. That’s right, Spa Minerale incorporates local Loudoun County wines and their known rich antioxidants into their signature facial, massage and nail treatments. Indulge in a Signature Wine Wrap, where the whole body is brushed with wine extract and then your head, neck, feet and back are massaged while antioxidant rich shea butter melts into your skin. Cabernet, take me away!

Kind Travelers looking to stay toned or tone up will find themselves with an embarrassment of riches. Find a state-of-the-art gym and a team of dedicated fitness trainers at your disposal. Work out on the latest in cardio equipment such as rowing machines, stationary bikes, stairmasters, ellipticals, treadmills alongside Cybex equipment, kettlebells, medicine balls, a boxing gym, battle rope and plyo boxes to name just a few. Also, enjoy group fitness classes in yoga, Pilates, TRX, Zumba, and Cardio XFIT. For a more recreational approach, step outside and shoot some hoops on the outdoor basketball court, volley for serve on one of three lighted tennis courts, or challenge yourself on the miles and miles of hiking and bike trails on property. Take a cross over bike for an adventurous outing or a cruiser bike for gliding the paved trails. Both bikes can be reserved for $25/day, $10/hr.

Looking to squeeze 18 holes in on your trip, how about 45? The Golf Club at Lansdowne is a golf experience like no other. Birdie it up on 45 holes of championship golf at the Mid-Atlantic’s premier golf resort and private club, designed by world-renowned course designers Robert Trent Jones, Jr and Greg Norman.
