If you’re not already in love with Venice Beach, CA, you must not have been there yet. Explore with Hotel Erwin.
The Setting
This beachy little neighborhood packs immeasurable happiness in a laidback punch. While the modern face of Venice is cool and bohemian (a little hipster too, but in a loveable way), its backbone from the ‘60’s and 70’s let's hippie-era SoCal shine through. Chill out in an aura of playful positivity, where technology and arts, young and old, chic and eclectic, and even a little rebelliousness, collide. These Venice vibes define the very soul of Hotel Erwin, with a special emphasis on environmentalism and local community impact, we feel confident that this Kind Hotel will steal your heart away, too.
Sleep and Sanctuary
The 119 guestrooms and suites of this hotel welcome you to relax, play, and get downright creative. All have private balconies with views of the city and/or sea. Enjoy HDTV’s, complimentary WiFI, and 100% vegan LATHER bath products (of which the partially-used bottles are donated to charity), not to mention additional green features like energy-efficient lighting and AC. After its upcoming remodel, the hotel will continue its Kind efforts by donating all old furniture to local nonprofits. In showing Kindness to you, rooms also offer “work fuel” (coffee/tea), “play fuel” (an honor bar), as well as options of a “Bedtime Story" (milk and cookies), “Bubbly Bar” (mimosas), and “Up All Night” (Red Bull party tray), so you have libations for all occasions.
Eat. Pray. Eat.
Dining at Hotel Erwin is all about the celebrating the flavors of SoCal. Enjoy locally-sourced, sustainable ingredients that aren’t only farm-fresh and organic, but also stem from companies mandating humane animal treatment. The Kindness continues into your dining choices, where plant-based options (vegan and veg) are offered both in-room and in-’straunt. Barlo Kitchen and Cocktails, the main eatery on-site, was awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for 2015. Another killer selling point here is the second dining locale, High Rooftop Lounge. It’s the one and only bar of its kind in the Venice–and with the building’s prime location just steps from the beach, we promise you, the views will not disappoint. Sunset happy hour, anyone?
-
Barlo Kitchen and Cocktails – Savor modern American favorites at this fun neighborhood joint. Offering breakfast, dinner, and happy hour, menus are a little meat-centric; however, specific vegan options are outlined as well, and anything else that tickles your fancy can be made animal-free per-request. Start your day with a Bellini or Mimosa paired with the vegan Gatherer (of peppers, tomatos, mushrooms, squash, spinach, potatos, and onions), and try the Door in the Wall for dinner (with polenta, crimini mushrooms, baby carrots, brussel sprouts, and kabocha squash puree). Choose Kindness for dessert and opt to “Feed the Animals”: thanking your hardworking chefs by buying the kitchen a round of Red Bull, on you.
- High Rooftop Lounge – Live, local DJ’s and nightly drink specials ensure that this rooftop hangout is the place to be. Hotel Erwin’s spunkiness is more evident on its roof than ever, with menu titles like “Wine a bit! You’ll Feel Better,” and “Cure the Munchies” for available grub. It even sells “Protect Yourself” provisions such as shades and sunscreen for your daytime ragers. Choose your poison from options like the Spicy Jagerita (with jagermeister, fresh lime juice, jalapeño, and pineapple), Aviation Bombay Sapphire (of crème de violet and fresh lemon juice), or tequila-spiked, Mexican spiced hot chocolate when/if the weather cools down.
The Art of De-stressing
In place of an on-site fitness center, Erwin guests are offered complimentary passes to nearby Gold’s Gym. The hotel also recommends having a stretch at Muscle Beach Yoga, located right on the Boardwalk. Namaste.
Venice Beach is your oyster for breaking a sweat outdoors. Peruse the boardwalk on foot or various wheels, flex with the best at Muscle Beach, or hit the waves for a surf lesson...the list goes on. What SoCal adventure will you embark upon first?
