Take on the New York from the heart of Manhattan with a Kind stay at Dream Midtown Hotel

The Setting

If visiting NYC, we’re guessing you’re planning your vacay to include the following attractions: Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Broadway, and Fifth Avenue, just to start the list. Sound accurate? Then Dream Midtown is the #KindHotel for you. It’s location, smack-dab in the middle of Manhattan, sets you mere blocks from all of the above and more. Yet believe it or not, the true beauty of this place lies within its newly renovated walls. Think stainless steel, bright pops of color, vaulted artwork-covered ceilings, and soothing vibes, not to mention state-of-the-art technology that makes your stay a breeze. The latter is so prominent here that nearly all services you may require–from setting mood lighting to restaurant reservations–can be controlled from your smartphone. Pretty unbelievable, right? Tack on a trendy nightlife scene, famously drool-worthy restaurant, and superbly-attentive staff (that favor the term “host” over hotel”), and it’s almost like this place is an NYC Dream come true. Oh wait...

Sleep and Sanctuary

This restored, 1895 Beaux-Arts flatiron building houses 221 snazzy accommodations. Plush beds lie beneath colorful (often backlit) canopies, which verge on the trippy with their vibrant, floral designs. Pair these with large windows and mirror-covered walls–plus complimentary WiFi, 40” LED TV’s, and Bluetooth radios for you tech-savvy travelers–and these rooms become modern masterpieces that you’ll find tough to leave. Guest bathrooms are classically classy thanks to white marble features, and stocked with C.O. Bigelow (http://www.bigelowchemists.com/) apothecaries that favor essential oils. Certain suites even include two bathrooms, which in this city, is truly a luxury. Last but not least, all rooms and suites include a fully stocked minibar, too: because if you’re not getting into a little trouble on vacation, did you really vacation at all?

Eat. Pray. Eat.

The decadence that is Dream’s wining and dining experience spans a lobby lounge, rooftop bar, and one seriously savory restaurant. The latter serves authentic Italian fare in a whimsical, bright environment, plus outdoor seating for sunny days. Drinks throughout the hotel are top-notch as well, featuring top-shelf liquor, top-quality ingredients, and at PHD, served on top of the building. Nothing but the best for Dream Midtown guests! This mantra also extends to Dream’s super-fresh flavors, made from ingredients (for both food and cocktails) that are delivered to the property daily. That’s our Kind of sustainable experience.

Serrafina – This refined yet casual restaurant is a favorite among New Yorkers, and one visit–for any meal of the day–will make it clear why. Weekend brunch includes your choice of beverage plus potatoes and a basket of freshly baked breads, ALL in addition to your actual meal. Yet this generosity is just the beginning. Serrafina’s lunch/dinner menu is truly enormous, offering thin crust pizzas, freshly-made pastas, entrées, and desserts, plus enough antipastis to from a meal of their own. A standout sample feast includes: an antipasti of Zuppa Del Giorno “like grandma used to make”; the “Chopra” Salad with pears, veggies, walnuts, and mint-lemon vinaigrette; Gnocchi “Di Mamma” potato pasta with fresh cherry tomato sauce and basil; or if in the pizza mood, one of the four Margherita varieties, or the Primavera topped with seasonal garden vegetables. And for dessert? Where to begin...while all ten options would do the sweet-tooth trick, we’re particularly intrigued by Le Crepes Alla Gelato Nutella topped with grand marnier, tangerine, raspberries, and melted ice cream. Just, yum.

PHD Terrace – Head to PHD if rooftop hangouts and/or penthouses are your thing. This skyline beauty was inspired by the splendor of swanky Manhattan, offering Times Square views from both its indoor and outdoor areas. Nibble on “Bits and Bites” like charred edamame and crispy asparagus (or in the winter, a chocolate chip cookie skillet with white chocolate mousse, caramel sauce, and both white and milk chocolate pieces) while swaying to DJ beats until it closes “Late”. While grub options are somewhat limited, however, the drink menu sprawls. Sample tantalizing cocktails like the Hot to Trot and One Night in Bangkok, or Mega Moscow Mules served in giant copper mugs. If champagne is more your game, have no fear; bubbly flows heavily here as well.

The Ricky – Find this craft cocktail lounge on Dream Midtown’s lobby level. Conceptualized by acclaimed mixologist Johnny Swet (also known for his work at JIMMY in #KindHotel The James, Chicago), savor a farm-to-bar experience in a sophisticated, energetic space. Try out signature cocktails like the Going Back to Cali (Herradura Tequila, hemp, avocado, lime, and vanilla), or The Cartel made with Sailor Jerry’s, pineapple, cracked Colombian coffee bean, and a coconut water ice block (woah).  “Lite Bites” to help wash down this mayhem include kale artichoke dip with assorted bread, or Thai basil hummus with pita and mixed veggies, just to name a few.

Enjoy Serrafina’s finest from the comfort of your guestroom anytime between 7am–11pm. Bathrobes encouraged.

The Art of De-stressing

Be Kind to your body and squeeze in a trip (or two) to the gym. Rather than housing a fitness center on property, Dream invites guests to get to work at Crunch Fitness (https://www.crunch.com/locations/w-54th-st), located mere steps away from the hotel. But better yet, if weather’s on your side? Embrace the outdoors and exercise in Central Park. Nat Geo recently found that we’re Wired To Be Outside (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/02/nature-fix-brain-happy-florence-williams/), so de-stress like nature intendedand find peace (and power!) amidst the trees.

Guestrooms

Dream’s rooms begin in the Bronze category, offering single beds of either the Solo (full), Queens, or King variety. These rooms increase in size according to their beds. More spacious guestrooms include Silver Kings or Silver Doubles, featuring a single king bed or two double beds, respectively. If looking for the largest guestroom style, however, reserve a Gold King for a gold-standard stay.

Suites

Yet Dream’s guestrooms merely begin the list of glam at this hotel. Gold Suites up the ante with separate living rooms and kings in the masters. Even more divine are Platinum Suites, which feature the aforementioned treat/Manhattan rarity of two bathrooms in one living space. Only question is, which shower will you sing in first?

 Special Rooms

But if looking for the Dream team’s MVP, the Guesthouse is the accommodation for you. This monstrous space is perfect for parties: entertain in the living room, craft some deliciousness at the kitchenette, soak up views of Columbus Circle while sipping on homemade cocktails, then invite your friends to crash in any of three bedrooms. Just try to remember that NYC’s (other) main attractions lie outside your Guesthouse walls, too.
