Welcome to the hotel of your dreams in the City That Never Sleeps.

The Setting

A Big Apple vacay is first and foremost about the destination. As one of the most sought-after cities in the world, you expect your NYC hotel to set you up for exploration, right? With Dream Downtown, you’ve come to the right place. Just outside your doors lies many big-name attractions like Chelsea Market, The High Line, The West Village, and SoHo, plus more shops, restaurants, bars, and to-do than you’ll have time for in one getaway. Yet at Dream, the accommodations themselves are also (at least) half the fun. Its gorgeous stainless steel façade and enormous porthole windows stem from its history as the National Maritime Headquarters. But don’t let this nod to the days of old fool you: its modern face is truly as hip as a hotel can come, not to mention a little provocative. Become one with Dream’s effortlessly cool, retro vibe as soon as step into the lobby–where looking up also means looking into the floor of the rooftop, glass-bottomed pool (pause for second to ponder this). Add in a multitude of restaurants and bars, additional ground floor pool, hundreds of loft-style guestrooms (some pet-friendly rooms), as well as complimentary hotel-wide WiFI, and you’ll quickly fall in love with its magnificence too.

Sleep and Sanctuary

All 314 loft-style guestrooms and suites are created for you to have the sweetest of dreams during your stay. Get tech-savvy with 40” LED TV’s that have both iPod and computer connectivity hubs, because Netflix. You’ll also rise and shine to Tivoli alarms (if you must) featuring further iPod connectivity. There are even audio speakers in the bathrooms, too, if this wasn’t already enough music to your ears. In-room mini-fridges accompany extensive cocktail bars, but if you must be productive, desks and chairs are at your disposal as well. When it’s finally time for shuteye, draw your blackout shades and get cozy in uber-plush, pillow-topped beds (New York City might not sleep, but recommend that you–eventually–do).

Eat. Pray. Eat.

The party hardly stops at Dream Downtown. Home to a raging nightlife scene plus two elite restaurants (one with a separate cafe), each featuring its own chef, we hope that your vacation allows time for wining and dining across all.

• Bodega Negra: Restaurant – A colossal disco ball plated with 10,000 pennies would take center stage as this fancy Mexican joint, if its food wasn’t so good. Chef Michael Armstrong, however, sees to it that his talent takes the cake. Dive into divine small plates and sharing options for dinner in this intimate, mood-lit setting. Standouts include the veggie tacos, beet and carrot ceviche, as well as grilled kale tostada with mushrooms, rajas, and pico de gallo. Entreé options are available as well, like a roasted chile relleno bursting with quinoa, fresh veggies, and pasilla chile sauce. But if one menu item sums up the Bodega experience, it’s definitely the Don Huevo dessert. When hot caramel is poured atop its white chocolate cage, it melts to reveal a hidden molten chocolate cake inside. BRB, we’re booking a table right now.
  • Bodega Negra: Cafe – Bodega Negra’s smaller and more laid-back cafe is open for all meals of the day, including weekend brunch. Choose from a variety of tortas like the avocado toast with toasted pepitas and veggies, or crunchy-fresh salads, such as the quinoa or grilled corn options.
  • Mogu – An extravagant mirrored staircase descends into this luxurious Japanese restaurant. Chef Frances Traiga-Weshnak delivers classic dishes with a fine, modern twist, offering ampls sushi/sashimi, but in Kind interests, a specific vegan/vegetarian menu as well. Savor charcoal grilled eggplant or charred cauliflower with chocolate puree (intriguing), before moving onto any number of winning entreés for dinner. The pumpkin gnocchi with shaved truffle and mushrooms, kale, yuzu, and coconut ginger sauce sounds particularly delicious, as does the Okinawa sweet potato ravioli with quinoa and basil oil. Finish the experience in the traditional Japanese fashion with a steaming bowl of Akadashi miso soup.
  • The Beach Bar and Grill – [Closed for winter; open weather permitting] This daytime hangout accompanies the ground floor pool area, serving refreshingly innovative cocktails to help ease the Manhattan heat. Pair these with light bites from a menu that evolves with each season.
  • PH-D Rooftop Lounge – Accompanying Dream’s second pool, this swanky rooftop hangout invites guests to swing, sway, and socialize the night away. Soak in uninterrupted views of the NYC skyline–including the glittering Empire State Building as well as Hudson River–surrounded by Italian marble, nickel walls, amber/glass chandeliers, and DJ beats to boot. Nibble Mexican-ish “Bits and Bites” like beet salad skewers, crispy herb fries, and Dream Guacamole with pico de gallo and tortilla chips. The drink menu entails extensive champagne and cocktail options. Sip scandalously with drinks like the 50 Shades of Bleu (50 Bleu Vodka, marashino, creme de violette, and sparkling wine), or a concoction called the Wet Dream (lol) of Grey Goose Cherry Noir, St. Germain, and white cranberry and pineapple juices.
  • The Electric Room – Sparks start flying here at 11pm and don’t stop until four in the morning. We hope you packed your party pants. This intimate space serves high-end spirits and specialty cocktails, plus a small menu of comfort foods to help wash down your wild side. The gothic setting is paired to all revolving kinds of music ambiance, from Radiohead and the White Stripes to underground deep house DJs. While the entrance is somewhat hard to find (keep walking down 16th past the graffiti), once arrived, it’s be hard to leave. And you never thought you’d be the guy getting kicked out the door at four.
  • Prefer your gourmet tacos in bed instead? Bodega brings the fiesta to you via in-room dining, if you please. Simply give them a call and they’ll be happy to assist.
The Art of De-stressing

Stay fit on vacation with Dream’s third-floor fitness center, home to top-notch cardio machines and strength training items. If looking to de-stress in more pampered style, however, the hotel offers spa services as well. Its property is home to a special treatment area where outside specialists will come meet you to perform massages, facials, and more. Simply contact the concierge for assistance.

Yet the spa day doesn’t stop here: guests can also elect for treatments given in poolside cabanas if outdoor de-stressing is more up your alley. And considering Dream’s pool scene is like no other in New York, we definitely don’t blame you for going this route. Said cabanas and chaise loungers–plus a DJ booth and The Beach Bar–surround the ground floor pool, in addition to Manhattan’s one and only sand beach (say whaaaat?). The Cote D’Azur-inspired space doesn’t stop with just the design theme, but instead literally extends to a beach area at one end of the pool. Yet all this jazz is still only half the fun. Head on up to the roof to wade with a view, not only of NY’s skyline, but of the lobby below. This trippy glass-bottomed tank is something you need to swim to believe, so make a splash and get weird (but not too weird. The Dream brand is all about getting into a little trouble, but skinny dipping here would be fun for absolutely no one. Trunks on, folks).

Guestrooms

Guestrooms begin in the Bronze category, spanning Queen, King, and King Balcony options, each with increasing space. Queens entail skyline views, while King Balconies offer the outdoors. Enhanced Silver rooms include single Kings or two Doubles, or the spacious King Pool rooms whose balconies overlook the city’s sole sandy beach. Gold rooms include king beds only (what a bummer). Gold King Pools offer beach views, while Gold Kings mean uninterrupted skyline views and a little more space. The grandest guestrooms available, however, are Platinum Kings. Offering substantially more room than those mentioned prior–in addition to a sleek chrome bathtub–you’ll also get to savor Manhattan’s majesty via 10 porthole windows. Because one simply does not cut it!

Suites

Snazzy Platinum Suites are akin to their guestroom counterparts, but arranged as private apartments rather than smaller studios. Sprawl out in the king master bedroom or separate living room with overstuffed couch.

Special Rooms

This hotel is home to two extremely exclusives spaces, reserved only for Dream’s most extravagant guests. A long wall of glass separates the South Tower Terrace from its indoor area–three bedrooms and a living room–and extensive outdoor terrace. Here you’ll find not only ample lounge furniture and greenery, but also a wooden hot tub for you and your friends to soak beneath the stars. Yet this isn’t even the golden ticket: saved best for last, enter the Guesthouse Presidential Suite. This gargantuan two-story glam-space constitutes the property’s penthouse, featuring a king master, separate living room, and garden terrace with glass-bottom Jacuzzi. But that’s just the physical amenities. Guesthouse residents also receive personalized service from a Private Barista, Security Guard, and– yes, believe it–a Sneaker Stylist. Who doesn’t need help choosing their Nike’s for the day?
