Say “bonjour” to the only independent, boutique hotel in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Charmant Hotel is spilling over with elegance.

The Setting

Constituting the only boutique hotel in the area, the Charmant Hotel is quite literally a treat. Housed in a historic candy making factory, rumor has it the sweet smell still lingers in the walls (enhanced upon in present day by the homemade chocolate shop on site). Its whimsical allure emanates from the very soul of this property, whose name– which translates to “charming” in French–says it all. You’ll be greeted by warm and welcoming staff the moment you enter its classic walls, featuring exposed brick, wooden beams, and even pups, too; the hotel is dog-friendly. Last but far from least, the Mississippi River flows just outside Charmant’s doors, meaning nature and all its to-do’s are mere steps away. We know you’ll enjoy.

Sleep and Sanctuary

The 67 rooms of this boutique hotel span six different options, including suites and one particularly spectacular Grand Salle.  Prepare to be pampered by glamorous features in any room you choose. Modern amenity highlights include 48” HDTV’s, Bongo Bluetooth Speakers, and complimentary WiFi to keep you connected during your stay. Cleanse beneath rainfall showerheads using Bigelow bath products, which are full of natural oils, in your double-vanity bathroom–easily mistaken for a personal spa. Best of all? • The Restaurant – Savor rustic cuisine with Wisconsin flair in the comfortably inviting Restaurant. Open for breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner, be sure to stop by at least once for every meal; to do otherwise would be doing yourself a disservice. Start your day the traditional French way with a freshly baked croissant, preserves, and sweet butter, or Tina’s house granola with oats, quinoa, pepitas, dried apricot, and door county cherries. For lunch, try out the caramelized cauliflower soup drizzled with olive oil, paired with a local greens salad topped with radishes, asian pears, and walnuts. Go for the ribollita stew for dinner filled with cannellini beans, kale, carrot, tomato, preserved lemon, and a fresh slice of miche bread, with a side of the Lyonnaise fingerling potatoes topped with onion and chive (a specialty of Lyon). But what do the French do best? Les sucres, of course: try the chocolate ganache orange cake topped with an almond tulie, or a maple bourbon crème brûlée if you prefer to keep it classic. Save us a bite.
  • The Lobby Bar and Lounge – Featuring a modified version of the aforementioned menu, The Lobby Bar and Lounge is a social center for guests and locals alike.
